Medtronic Broadway Musical Night (80 staff performers / 400 show attendees)
Medtronic are a global leader in medical devices and medical technology, providing services and solutions in more than 150 countries worldwide. The company can trace its history in Ireland back to the 1980’s, and today it employs over 4,000 people in five sites across Galway, Dublin and Athlone.
Although Medtronic has its headquarters in Dublin, the majority of staff are employed in its state of the art facility in Galway. When the company decided to hold a “Medtronic Does Broadway” Staff Night, it looked for a suitable event management Galway company to help run the occasion. Many event organisers in Ireland are Dublin-centric, so Medtronic were delighted to work with Hijack Events, who are able to deliver the same high standards of service right across the country.
The format was a little different from the “OsKaRs Nights” that Hijack Events also organise. For the OsKaRs, completed short films are premiered on the Gala launch night, but for a Broadway event, each of the different acts performs on the night. For the show, performers mime to the music, leaving them free to concentrate on their stage presence and choreography.
Rehearsals for “Medtronic Does Broadway” proved to be a great way of bringing staff of all ages and abilities together, and with the support of Hijack Events’ professional acting coaches and choreographers, the levels of performance had to be seen to be believed. Acts ranged from three performers to larger group routines, featuring song and dance extracts from musicals such as Singin’ in the Rain, The Greatest Showman, Dreamgirls and Chicago.
Hijack Events professionally co-ordinated all aspects of the show, dressing the venue, The Galmont Hotel & Spa in Galway, in spectacular style. The huge LED screen provided a dazzling backdrop, and a top level audio system delivered great sound. But the real stars were the performers, who at the same time as thoroughly enjoying themselves, delivered a fantastic night’s entertainment for the audience. For many participants, it was the first time they had ever been on stage, but from the quality of their performances, you would never have guessed it!
The whole evening was an outstanding success, bringing staff together, teaching them new skills – many of which were directly applicable to the workplace, making it the perfect team building event – and providing a fabulous evening’s entertainment for colleagues, family and friends. And as an added bonus, the event also raised thousands of Euros for the Galway-based charity Cancer Care West.
